Simplicity Crib Recall – 2010
The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) is announcing a recall of Simplicity full-size cribs with tubular metal mattress-support frames. This recall will impact fixed-side and drop-side cribs as the support frame can bend or detach, causing the matress to collapse. Parents are advised to stop using the cribs, and no not attempt to fix the crib.
Graco Crib Recall – 2010
The CPSC has recalled drop-side cribs made by LaJobi. The hardware has been reported to break, allwoing the drop side to detach from the crib, causing a hazardous gap which could potential entrap or suffocate a child or infant.
Dorel Asia Crib Recall – 2010
More than 635,000 stationary and drop-side cribs were recalled in January 2010. The sides of the crib have been known to fail, causing the side to detach, which could potentially trap or suffocate the child. The slats have also been reported as breaking, resulting in bruises or stratches.
Delta Crib Recall
Delta recalled 1.59 million cribs with safety or spring pegs manufactured between 1995 and 2005 because inproper installation could result in injury or death.
Simpicity Crib Recall – 2009
Close to 600,000 Simplicity drop-side cribs and 900,000 convertible bassinets were recalled due to hardware problems that have resulted in two infant deaths.
Simplicity Crib Recall – 2007
The drop rail on the best selling models has been known to detach, resulting in one of the largest crib recalls in the United States. This affected several Simplicity cribs that used the Graco logo.
Dorel Crib Recall removes 635,000 Cribs from Market
Consumer Product and Safety Commission (CPSC) announced that 635,000 Doral Asia cribs will be recalled after reports linked the cribs to more than 10 injuries and one death. Drop-Side Dorel Cribs Recalled. The CPSC stated in a statement that “when the drop side detaches it creates a space in which an infant or toddler can become entrapped and suffocate or strangle.” At least one death – that of a 6-month child – and several children have been associated with the cribs, prompting the recall.
Crib Safety Tips and Recent Dangerous Recalls
Recall of faulty cribs and infant deaths related to the cribs has induced a rash of panic and worry among many parents of newborn babies. The recall is expected to affect millions of families and included a recall of 1.6 million potentially faulty cribs, according to a Chicago Tribune special investigation. Slats should not be widely spaced, no more than 2 and 3/8 inches.
